Kristopher W. Reese is a graduate student, currently working towards an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering, at the University of Louisville, studying with Dr. Adel Elmaghraby on Personalized Interactive Art (Thesis topic, subject to change) in the Emerging Technologies Lab. Kris graduated with both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Art in Music Performance (Saxophone) from Hood College (located in Frederick, MD) in May 2009.
Computer Science
While an undergraduate, Kris began to study various research topics in many areas of interest. He began his studies in Jamming Detection and Avoidance as a Junior under the direction of Dr. Ahmed Salem (Hood College) and attended his first conferences the following year for his papers A Survey on Jamming Avoidance in Ad-Hoc Sensory Networks and Using Standard Deviation in Signal Strength Detection to determine Jamming in Wireless Networks at the CCSCE (Consortium for Computing Sciences in College, Eastern Conference ‘08) and ISCA CAINE (Conference on Computer Applications in Industry and Engineering ‘08) respectively. He completed his studies at Hood College in 2009 with a final project and paper entitled Gaming Concepts in Accessible HCI for Bare-Hand Computer Interaction. This project was advised by Dr. Ahmed Salem and Dr. George Dimitoglou. You can find the project and download details in the Senior Project Portion of the Site.
Kris’ current research interest include (but are far from limited to):
- Applications of Music and Music Theory in Computing Sciences
- Algorithmic Art & Visualization
- Signal and Acoustical Processing
- Emerging Technologies
- Computer Vision
- Machine Learning
- Information Retrieval & Data Mining
- Human Computer Interaction
- Robotics
Kris has also worked in the industry as a web programmer with Yakabod. He helped to develop a large scale knowledge network, which is used both commercially and in the government by more than 20,000 users worldwide.
Music
Kris completed his Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Hood College. He has performed with multiple honors and awards from Hood College for performance. In March 2009, Kris performed his Senior Recital with David Conway as his accompanist, performing a mostly classical music. Kris’ influences include: Marcel Mule, Rudy Weidoeft, Sigurd Rascher, Claude Delangle, and Dale Underwood. He has performed both as a member of ensembles and as a soloist. He has performed as the primary saxophonist for the Hood College Wind and Jazz Ensembles, as well as a soloist with the Wind Ensemble and Choral Ensembles of Hood College. He has also performed with the McDaniel Saxophone Ensemble/Quartet on Tenor, Alto, and Soprano Saxophones. Kris has premiered pieces from multiple composers from Hood College, including Jerry Gentry’s “Sonata for Reeds”.
Kris is also an active arranger of music. In March 2009, Kris’s arrangement of Eugene Bozza’s “Aria” was performed by the Hood College Wind Ensemble with Kris performing the solo portion of the work. Kris has arranged for both Large Ensembles as well as Chamber Ensembles (mostly Saxophone Quartets).
Kris currently performing as a saxophonist for the Louisville Community Band, and is looking for other ensembles to perform with as well. He is also planning more solo concerts in the future, as time permits. His hopes for the near future include performing with an orchestra.
